Getting Started

Before you start looking for an internship (or before you accept an offer), it is important to be aware of the requirements your internship will need to meet in order to be eligible for academic credit. If seeking credit, you will want to carefully review the information below before starting your internship search.

Carefully read through the steps below before applying for your internship for academic credit.

Terms to Know

Faculty Supervisor (or Supervising Professor) 鈥 the 海角社区 faculty member who will be overseeing the internship course and connecting with you throughout the semester; the faculty supervisor will assign your final grade

 

Faculty Approver 鈥 the professor in your department who reviews your internship application (depending on your major, this person might also be your faculty supervisor)

 

Internship Supervisor 鈥 the person who will be supervising you at your internship site

 

SMART Learning Objectives 鈥 a statement explaining what you want to accomplish at your internship, and how you plan to accomplish those goals

How to Register for Your Internship Course

After everyone has approved the application, you receive an email explaining how to register for the credit. Depending on your major, you will either register聽yourself,聽or you will be registered by your department.聽

IMPORTANT REGISTRATION INFORMATION

After you are registered, BE SURE TO DOUBLE CHECK that you are registered for the correct number of credits.

Your registered internship credits MUST MATCH the credits approved in your internship for academic credit application.聽If you need help with this, email us at聽[email protected].

End of Internship Checklist

Complete These Steps at the End of Your Internship

  1. Complete your self-evaluation in
    • Tip: Some academic departments use a different evaluation form than the one available in Career Link. Review your department鈥檚 requirements to ensure you fill out the correct form.
  2. Remind your onsite supervisor that they will also receive an evaluation to complete, and the link to complete the form will come from [email protected].
  3. Update your resume!聽Be sure to include your internship, including projects you worked on and new skills that you developed. Visit the Career Readiness website for tips.
